‘In Pulp Mode’ (IPM) is a joint initiative between Pulp Shred and Incipio Modo to reclaim, recycle and recreate design, art, and functional products from waste materials to achieve zero-landfill waste.
Our vision is to reduce Calgary’s landfill burden and contribute to the wellbeing of our City. We do this by changing people’s attitudes about waste and transforming industrial waste, recycled, and rescued materials into works of art, design, and useful products.
‘In Pulp Mode’ designs anything, from furniture to everyday objects, from recycled and upcycled materials, which means that the products we make are unique and useful, manufactured using industrial and residential waste that would otherwise end up in a landfill or pollute our skies and water.
Why bother with landfill diversion?
Waste is everywhere – we are discarding items, products, and materials at an alarming rate! This use-and-throw attitude is creating a tremendous pressure on landfills, waterbodies, and natural habitats.
We believe that through upcycling, sourcing responsible materials, and connecting with like minded partners and conscious consumers, together we can contribute to a greener, sustainable future.
Where are we in our journey?
IPM will initially focus on upcycling industrial waste from two streams: construction and paper waste. Specifically, residential construction and renovation site waste and shred paper dust and shred paper alternatives. As the concept grows and a healthy product- market fit is achieved, IPM may take on waste from other sectors/processes.
As part of the early design iterations, the team has developed a few design prototypes, mixing shred paper dust with organic resins, colours, cement, saw dust, etc. Some of the early designs include, hand made novelty paper, paper lamps, sculptures, masks, cups, and outdoor tabletop.
The company aims to further develop this concept and create its own line of shred paper art and products for commercial purposes. Additionally, Pulp Shred is also developing an exhibition space within its facilities to spread the awareness for paper recycling and upcycling. The company is also looking at partnering with like-minded companies in developing product ideas and/or custom design products.

This is a calling, a labour of love, a way of life, something bigger than the day to day routine. We want someone that likes to be involved in each and every aspect of what we are doing, wants to learn and wants to share. About the company
Founded in 2018, Pulp Shred is Calgary’s multi award-winning company and the greener alternative for confidential document destruction. In choosing Pulp Shred, you ensure 100% of your shredded paper is commingled, baled, and recycled into new products, thereby supporting circular economy and creating local jobs! We are an innovative, data driven and new age thinking information security, destruction and recycling company. We bring a new way of approaching customers confidentiality requirements without compromising the environment. Our business model is based on the Triple Bottom Line (TBL) framework and philosophy. To us, it is not a binary choice, i.e. whether to choose our business processes (data security and destruction) over greener practices (contamination removal and recycling) or social commitment (community involvement) – all three are an intrinsic part of our company DNA and value proposition.
