VESTA began as an information and reporting platform, it has since evolved into a digital, online hub for survivors. We’ve learned from the research and feedback to wrap even more options and services around survivors. Our aim is to fill the gaps for those survivors who can’t or are afraid to seek professional help. Through one point of entry, survivors can find information including financial, legal, and health services. They can connect with in person services, including counselling. With one click, they can access crisis chat and text lines. Students at our university partners, can connect with their school’s Sexual Violence Prevention and Response Office, to find out what their on-campus options are. For those, that don’t know what steps they want to take, if any, they can simply create a record of their experience and save it, without taking any action. And for those who do want to connect with the police, we facilitate a trauma-informed approach and introduction to them.

Nurses as First Responders: Identifying and Supporting Violence Victims
This project aims to explore the critical role nurses play as the first point of contact for victims of violence. The primary goal is to conduct a comprehensive literature search to determine whether nurses are frequently involved in the disclosure process of violence victims. The project will investigate how nurses can effectively identify potential victims and what best practices they should follow to provide appropriate support. By refining the project scope, the team will delve into existing research to understand the strategies nurses use to recognize signs of violence and the subsequent steps they take to assist victims. This project will provide valuable insights into the current practices and suggest improvements to enhance the support system for violence victims within healthcare settings.
