ESG Strategy Development
Pulp Shred is in the information security destruction space. We are based in Calgary, Canada. Our customers are both B2B and B2C. On the business side, we focus on the local SMB market. Our business model is built on a triple bottom line philosophy- security (profits), sustainability (planet), societal (people). We are now expanding to add cyber security and cloud security to become a fully integrated information security company. And on the sustainability side, we are adding eco friendly packaging products. This requires a whole new approach to communicate our brand values and appeal. Therefore, we are interested in developing a comprehensive ESG strategy, marketing, and communication report for our secure, sustainable, and socially responsible information security company.

Pulp Shred - Marketing, Graphics Design & Content Development
ABOUT COMPANY Founded in 2018, Pulp Shred is Calgary’s multi award-winning company and the greener alternative for confidential document destruction. In choosing Pulp Shred, you ensure 100% of your shredded paper is commingled, baled, and recycled into new products, thereby supporting circular economy, and creating local jobs! We are an innovative, data driven and new age thinking information security, destruction, and recycling company. We bring a new way of approaching customers confidentiality requirements without compromising the environment. Our business model is based on the Triple Bottom Line (TBL) framework and philosophy. To us, it is not a binary choice, i.e. whether to choose our business processes (data security and destruction) over greener practices (contamination removal and recycling) or social commitment (community involvement) – all three are an intrinsic part of our company DNA and value proposition.

Customer acquisition & sales growth
Our business model is based on the Triple Bottom Line (TBL) framework and philosophy. To us, it is not a binary choice, i.e. whether to choose our business processes (data security and destruction) over greener practices (contamination removal and recycling) or social commitment (community involvement) – all three are an intrinsic part of our company DNA and value proposition. We would like to develop a cohesive sales and business development system to increase our customer acquisition and institutional sales. Additionally, we are interested in exploring product development, market research and assessment for finding alternatives for our shredded paper (e.g. building products, palletizing, etc.). This can come in the form of a comprehensive report and/or presentation. For commercially viable alternatives, we may be open to a monetary prize for successful idea/prototype.

SaaS based software product development
Data destruction is about offering peace of mind to customers that their confidential and most private information has been duly destructed beyond reconstruction. Mobile shredding trucks are usually 5-10T trucks and offer shedding on site, but leave a high negative environmental footprint. At Pulp Shred, we service our customers in smaller fuel efficient vehicles, we transport the materials back to our site, remove contaminants, shred, commingle and bale the shredded paper. These bales are then shipped to paper mills for processing into new/recycled paper products. Additionally, we also capture the very fine shred paper dust and are now collaborating with a local design studio to convert the dust into new products, thereby saving the dust from the environment and landfill. Further, to counter the on site appeal of shred trucks, Pulp Shred has developed a proprietary video verification system - ‘PULP SHRED Video Verification (PSVV)’ system. The PSVV is a unique custom-built IOT software technology that provides customers the ability to view their entire shredding process. Customers are notified when their shredding is complete and can log in to view their shredding jobs at their convenience 24/7. Apart from the industry standard certificate of destruction, PULP SHRED provides verifiable video proof for an auditable tight chain-of-custody, including barcode scanning at each touchpoint, date and time stamps, asset identification, tracking and reporting system, container information (type, location, weights), service technician information. Additionally, we have developed an integrated enterprise system capable of handling everything from customer creation, calendaring, scheduling, work orders, invoicing, payment management, customer communications, vendors, asset tracking and barcoding, field app (web based), along with our PSVV system. We would like to productize our system and develop a general SaaS based system that could be licensed or subscribed by small-medium sized companies. For this, certain tweaks and additions would need to be made to the system and also software licensing considerations need to be thought through. We target both residential and commercial customers. Commercial reoccurring customers have been difficult to get and scale. One of the reasons is many of the customers are already locked into contracts and at low price point there isn't much incentive for them to switch. Our goal is the establish a franchise network offering our compact, greener and residential shredding. Scope of Works: Project A) Gather requirements for the application and create a Scope of Statement document describing the main functionalities. Deliverable: Scope of Statement document Project B) Conduct a competitive analysis research about the application and how it compares with similar applications in the market Deliverable: Competitive Analysis document. The team needs to explore/research other applications/uses/industries for our Video Verification software system.

PROJECT SCOPE We have two websites - https://pulpshred.com and https://store.pulpboxes.com/. We intend to redevelop and consolidate these two websites into one main website - https://pulpshred.com. Our current website, https://pulpshred.com, is custom developed in Java script. Although appealing on the eye, the website is not maintenance and admin friendly. Additionally, we would like the Pulp Shred website to include our e-commerce site as one platform (https://store.pulpboxes.com/). We would like the website to be visually appealing and easy to maintain and update, preferably in WordPress. We anticipate the majority of existing content to be reused, a fair bit of new content, visuals, and tweaks may be required, however. Plus, new services need to be incorporated along with reorganization of menu.

Who is 'In Pulp Mode'? ‘In Pulp Mode’ (IPM) is a joint initiative between Pulp Shred and Incipio Modo to reclaim, recycle and recreate design, art, and functional products from waste materials to achieve zero-landfill waste. Our vision is to reduce Calgary’s landfill burden and contribute to the wellbeing of our city. We do this by changing people’s attitudes about waste and transforming industrial waste, recycled, and rescued materials into works of art, design, and useful products. IPM designs anything, from furniture to everyday objects, from recycled and upcycled materials, which means that the products we make are unique and useful, manufactured using industrial and residential waste that would otherwise end up in a landfill or pollute our skies and water. Why bother with landfill diversion? Waste is everywhere – we are discarding items, products, and materials at an alarming rate! This use-and-throw attitude is creating a tremendous pressure on landfills, waterbodies, and natural habitats. We believe that through upcycling, sourcing responsible materials, and connecting with like minded partners and conscious consumers, together we can contribute to a greener, sustainable future. Where are we in our journey? IPM will initially focus on upcycling industrial waste from two streams: construction and paper waste. Specifically, residential construction and renovation site waste, and shred paper dust and shred paper alternatives. The company aims to further develop this concept and create its own line of shred paper art and products for commercial purposes. Additionally, Pulp Shred is also developing an exhibition space within its facilities to spread the awareness for paper recycling and upcycling. The company is also looking at partnering with like-minded companies in developing product ideas and/or custom design products. What kind of person(s) are we looking for? We are looking for someone that wants to work with us not because they have to (i.e. extra credits), but because they want to . This is a calling, a labour of love, a way of life, something bigger than the day to day routine. We want someone that likes to be involved in each and every aspect of what we are doing, wants to learn and wants to share. Specifically, we are looking for a creative and driven marketing person(s) with knowledge of social media, graphic design and digital marketing to help us tell our story to the world and create our brand awareness.
